Yesterday we spent some time reviewing the Facebook new like button code and wrote a blog post on how to manually edit the single.php WordPress blog file to include the new Facebook like button. After checking out some other blog posts we came across a WordPress Plugin For Facebook Like Button that we have been playing with today that was really simple to install and for those that don’t want to mess with the single.php file this plugin is perfect and works great.
The WordPress Facebook plugin is called WP FB Like plugin. To install it either search for the Facebook Like WordPress Plugin called WP FB Like or download the Facebook Like Button WordPress Plugin and then follow these instructions:
- Upload the WP FB Like directory to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
- Go to Settings/Facebook Like to configure the button
There are options for the WP FB Like plugin that allows you to customize the way the “Like” button shows up to suit your needs or aligned with the themes you use. The options are as follows:
- Display: you can choose to display the pages and front end (home)
- Position: position of the content or the button can also manually by placing the code [fblike]
- Styling: set the style for the div that surrounds the button
- Layout style: choice of standard or button_count
- Show Faces: displaying profile pic of the user that pressing the button
- Width: width of the iframe and button
- Height: height of the iframe
- Verb to display: you can choose the “like” or “recommend”
- Fonts: there are several options that is the default font, arial, Verdana, Trebuchet MS, Segoe UI, Tahoma, lucida grande
- Color Scheme: the options are light, dark, evil
